TOUR VICEREGAL LIMA

Location: Lima, Perú

General public

Description Tour:

You will visit the Magnificent Historic Centre of Lima., known as the “Ciudad de lo Reyes” (City of the Kings). On our way to the Centre of Lima, you will have a panoramic visit of the Huaca Pucllana (Pre-Hispanic Ceremonial Temple that dates back 200 years AD) located in the Miraflores district. This place was included in the tour because not many people know that Lima city is built on temples and administrative and religious complexes.

Once at our destination we will begin our tour on foot through its old historic streets to appreciate its mansions, churches, Government Palace, and City Hall. On our route, first you will visit the majestic Cathedral of Lima. This cathedral dates from 1535. The main points of this Cathedral are: the Chapel of Francisco Pizarro, the High Altar with its beautiful and imposing Choir Stalls, the Sacristy, the Chapter House where historical and transcendental events for the city and the country took place.

The second place you will visit is the Casa Aliaga, a magnificent mansion, considered one of the jewels of our viceregal and republican architecture. Like the cathedral, its construction began in 1535, the same year Lima city was founded. Its owner was Mr. Jerónimo de Aliaga. Its extraordinary furniture with styles that set trends between the 17th and 19th centuries, its halls, rooms, chapel, and patio, never cease to impress visitors.

The third place to visit is the Convent of Santo Domingo. The construction of this glorious convent dates back to the 16th century. It has two beautiful cloisters that are different in their architecture. The walls of one of them are covered by Sevillian tiles while the other cloister is decorated with Mudejar art. This convent houses the relics of well-known Peruvian saints such as: Santa Rosa de Lima, San Martin de Porres, and San Juan Macías. In 1551, some environments of the convent were assigned to the Universidad Mayor de San Marcos (the first one in America).
